2 Pit Bulls Attack, Injure Elderly Woman and Her Dog
2 Pit Bulls Attack, Injure Woman, 61, and Her DogJacksonville, FL - Arline Weisenborn was walking her rat terrier dachshund, Buddy, on Berry Avenue off Arlington Road and Atlantic Boulevard when she passed a home with two pit bulls. She told police the dogs saw them, managed to pop the gate latch and went after them.
Weisenborn scooped up Buddy as the two pit bulls began tearing away at her legs. They also mauled her right arm and a finger. They knocked her down and the male pit bull grabbed Buddy's hind quarters, "so I kicked the dog in the head," Weisenborn said. She grabbed an empty garbage can and covered her hobbled little dog.
Neighbor Gary Walters, 55, heard her screams and distracted them. Walters told news reporters he threw some tree limbs at the dogs and chased them away. "It was mighty terrifying," Weisenborn said. "They would have killed me if the man down the street didn't come help."
She got out of the hospital Wednesday with the addition of 27 staples in her left leg, 10 to 15 in the right leg and 15 to 20 in her right arm. Buddy was left with a big gash. She and Walters said they hadn't had any problems with the pit bulls before, although she had been attacked once before by other dogs on the block.
