Flashback: What Pit Bull Attack Victims Suffer, Alan Hill

Victim Pleads for Ban
Independence, MO - A man hospitalized for three months after a violent pit bull attack said he hopes Independence will ban pit bulls. Alan Hill was nearly killed when three pit bulls mauled him on May 4, 2006. Hill had been mowing a field when the animals attacked. He tried to get to his Jeep for protection. "I had a gun in the back of my Jeep, but I was on the passenger side and I couldn't get to it," Hill told news reporters.

Hill suffered extensive bites to his arms, upper body, face and head, and lost a significant amount of blood. "I was bleeding, and the blood was just gushing out, so I knew I didn't have much time," Hill said. "I just kept getting weaker and weaker, and I knew I wasn't going to last much longer." A motorcycle officer came by and assisted Hill. "As soon as they opened the door to help me, I passed out," Hill said from his hospital bed.

Hill said he doesn't understand why City Council is hesitating to ban pit bulls. "It frustrates me a lot that the council can't pass something as simple as a dog ordinance. Are you going to put a dog before a human? Before a little girl?" Hill asked. City Council has promised to push a pit bull ban through by the end of August. Meanwhile, a fund has been set up to help Alan Hill's family with medical bills, which are expected to top $1 million.
