City Police Shoot and Kill Charging Pit BullWilkes-Barre, PA - Police officers shot and killed a pit bull Thursday after it charged at them at an East Northampton Street home that was posted unfit for habitation. It was the second time in the last two months that Wilkes-Barre police officers were forced to shoot a pit bull.
No one was supposed to be in the home at 245 E. Northampton St., but police received a call that people broke in the back door and were inside the abandoned building.
“When officers went inside, the pit bull came after them and they had to shoot the dog,” said police Sgt. James Sheridan.
Canine Officer Bill Harden shot the dog once and Officer Richard Harding shot it twice with a shotgun. Animal Enforcement Officer Rick Macko carried the dead dog out of the home in a bag and placed it in the city’s animal enforcement van. No one was in the home when police arrived, but officers found a heater on and bedding, Sheridan said.
