Fitchburg city councilman: Ban dogs from public events
Fitchburg City Councilman: Ban Dogs from Public EventsFitchburg, MA - Due to "knucklehead"
dangerous dog owners, it appears Fitchburg wants to ban all dogs from public gatherings. City Councilor Norman Boisvert calls his proposal to ban animals from public events a safety issue. He says such events are often marred by the presence of large, potentially aggressive dogs.
“Inevitably there’s always some knucklehead who comes down with his pit bull,” Mr. Boisvert told his colleagues last week. “Their justification is intimidation more than anything.”
His proposal would not ban specific breeds of dogs, but would keep all dogs or exotic animals from public events, with the exception of service dogs. He added that a breed-specific ban would be less enforceable and stands a higher likelihood of failing.
So why not just ban all dogs?Dog owners that are afraid to support breed specific laws must take heed. If we can't create effective public policy around breeds that undoubtedly inflict severe injury the most, all dog breeds will suffer.Labels: Maine
