Seattle Police Officer Shoots 2 Pit Bulls in West Seattle
One Killed; Owner in CustodySeattle, WA - Last week a
young girl was mauled by a pit bull in West Seattle. This week a Seattle police officer shot two pit bulls in West Seattle to protect a citizen. Tuesday night, police received a call from a man who said he and his dog were attacked by two pit bulls while they were out walking. Police arrived at 24th Avenue SW and SW Trenton to find the dogs roaming in the street.
When a neighbor came outside to complain about the dogs to police, the dogs began to stalk him. An officer tried to distract the dogs away from the man. The dogs then turned their attention to the officer and began charging, prompting the officer to open fire. The officer shot and killed one dog and injured the other. The owner of the pit bulls is currently in police custody.

Baltimore Man Sentenced for Throwing a Pit Bull at OfficerBalitmore, MD - A 23-year-old Baltimore man pleaded guilty yesterday to attacking two law enforcement officers -- one by throwing a pit bull at him -- as they tried to arrest him for violating his parole. Circuit Judge Timothy Doory sentenced Charles Smith of the 3100 block of Belmont Ave. to 10 years in prison for assaulting Agent Kimberly Collins, who suffered a fractured skull and hematoma behind her ear after Smith pushed her onto a concrete sidewalk.
Smith received an additional five years for assaulting Lt. Robert Thumma with his pit bull. According to Assistant State's Attorney Staci Pipkin, when Thumma and Collins arrived at Smith's house on Belmont Avenue, his pit bull ran out the open front door and down the street. Smith told Thumma and Collins that the dog was vicious and would only respond to him. They allowed Smith to retrieve the dog, which he did, but as Collins moved to arrest him, he threw the pit bull into the open window of Thumma's patrol car and onto his lap.
2 Officers Demoted, 1 Fired After Dog Attacks ManHutchins, TX - Yesterday, a Labrador/ rottweiler mix named Spike jumped a fence and knocked over a water department employee. When Public Works Director Ronnie O'Brien arrived at the scene, he wanted police to take action against the dog. Instead, he got nothing but attitude from the officers. After a heated argument, O'Brien took his complaint to the mayor's office.
In the fallout, Police Chief Gregory Griffin fired one of the two officers, and demoted another. Assistant Chief Landers was demoted to sergeant. The only physical injury suffered was by the animal control officer who reportedly broke his wrist while trying to put Spike in the cage. Meanwhile, Spike is still sitting in quarantine.
Philly Police Shoot Pit Bull During Drug BustPhiladelphia, PA - Police shot and killed a dog during a raid Tuesday night. Officers said they fired when a pit bull attacked them as they served a warrant at a suspected drug house, located on the 100 block of Gaines Street in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood. Police said they wound up making two arrests on drug charges.
