Pro-Pit Bull Advocates Flock to Madisonville Meeting
Pro-Pitters Invade Madisonville, TexasMadisonville, TX - City council heard from locals and other pit bull owners at a recent meeting in response to the city's ban on pit bulls. The pleas -- from non-area residents -- were endless, "My dog is the sweetest dog in the world," and "Who can afford an insurance policy and having to build a 10-by-10 foot enclosure?"
If one cannot afford these items, one should choose a different breed of dog. At the very least, when a pit bull chooses to bite, a victim is looking at 20,000 dollars in medical bills. This dollar amount stems from a 5-second attack that left a forearm broken and a trip to a local ER facility. If the injury is facial, multiply this amount by 5.
Lydia Zaidman, a co-organizer of a pro-pit bull group out of Austin, journeyed over to Madisonville for the occasion of this meeting. Given that she resides in a different town, over 100 miles away, it's unclear why her opinion matters to city council members in Madisonville.
She belted out antiquated one-liners, including that "the abuse is at the other end of the leash, and you have to target that end of the leash, or you're never going to solve the problem." Frankly, Ms. Zaidman, Madisonville just did solve the public safety problem that pit bulls pose --
they banned the breed.
