Screwdriver Used to Pry Open Pit Bull's Jaws During Attack
"Get Me a Screwdriver!"Vancouver, WA - What started as a morning walk for Brian Paulsen and his Shar-Pei, Sheeba, quickly turned into disaster. A pit bull bolted from a nearby doorway and attacked. As Sheeba struggled, the pit bull owner grabbed it, but the pit bull wouldn’t let go of her head. The man holding onto the pit bull yelled to the other man, "
Get me a screwdriver!"
When the man showed up with a wrench, the other man repeated it was a screwdriver he needed. Finally given a screwdriver, the dog’s owner inserted it into the pit bull’s jaws and pried them open.
Released from the pit bull’s jaws but with her head badly injured, Sheeba ran toward her front door. Paulsen ran after her, but he heard tires screeching behind him. He turned around and saw the man with the screwdriver speed away with the pit bull in a red car.
A surgeon stitched up Sheeba’s ripped skin and treated the tooth punctures on her head, but an injury in one ear canal couldn’t be sutured and has become infected. Sheeba left the clinic with six draining tubes inserted in her head. Due to the infection, if the ear doesn’t heal in nine days, Sheeba will have to be put to sleep.
Officials have learned that the pit bull belongs to a visiting boyfriend, and are still trying to track him down. They think the owner’s skillful use of the screwdriver to unclamp the pit bull’s jaws could mean he’s had to do that before. They also want to find out if the owner has been involved in illegal dogfighting.
