Ohio City May Prohibit Convicted Felons from Owning Pit Bulls
Sylvania Residents Want Pit Bulls RegulatedSylvania, OH - In the state of Ohio, all pit bulls are declared "vicious" by state law. They are banned in Cincinnati and
highly regulated in Toledo. Under Toledo law, people aren't allowed to own more than one pit bull and the dog must be leashed and muzzled if it leaves owner property.
Sylvania City Council is looking at that same regulation. They're also considering requiring all pit bulls to be spayed or neutered at 6 months old and not allowing convicted felons to own pit bulls at all.
If Sylvania passes this last part, they may be the first city in the US to prohibit convicted felons from owning pit bulls.
Residents in Sylvania spoke to City Council Monday night to voice their opposition to these proposals. They say the dogs can't be blamed for vicious behavior. It's the fault of the owners who breed them to be vicious. These same people seem to forget that they live in a state that has determined that "all pit bulls" are vicious period.
