Pit Bull Flies Out of Home, Attacks Girl Walking to Bus Stop
10-Year Old Girl Needs 39 Stitches; Second Attack for Pit BullMenomonie, WI - A pit bull attacked a 10-year-old girl recently as she was walking to her school bus stop. 39 stitches later, Dacia Otto says she barely had any time to react as the dog came running out of the house across the street from her home. As she stood on the sidewalk, Dacia says she knew something was wrong right away.
"The dog got out and he had his ears back," she said. "I went up with this arm first and I snagged this one away and then he went for this one."
Police say Tiffany Olson of Eau Claire owns the dog, named Blue, but the dog was staying with Olson's sister, Hollie Peterson, in Menomonie. Dacia says Peterson pulled the dog off her. But not before Dacia suffered bite marks up and down her arms. After getting stitched up, she's feeling sore and swollen. She's also afraid to go outside now.
"They shouldn't have those kinds of dogs in here because they are very dangerous and they should keep them away from little kids," she said."
Menomonie Police Chief Dennis Beety says Olson was ticketed for a dog causing damage,
second offense. Beety says this same dog also attacked another dog near the same house recently, so Olson was fined more than $1,000. Beety says Blue is now back at Olson's house in Eau Claire.
Classic pit bull owner behavior, just keep moving the dog around.
