American Staffordshire Terrier Breeder ChargedWaynesboro, VA - The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office issued a summons to Sheri Smith, 59, a breeder of American Staffordshire Terriers and Lakeland Terriers for having a dangerous dog. The charge is in relation to a March attack by two dogs that severely injured a pet cat on Dalhousie Road.
Smith lives on a 200-acre property on Duke Road, less than a quarter of a mile from Dalhousie Road.
The owner of the 11-year-old cat said that he returned home the afternoon of March 24 and saw two dogs mauling the cat underneath a patch of pine trees. The cat was so injured it had to be euthanized.
Smith said one of the dogs, a 3-year-old male, was equipped with an electrical collar. A 7-month-old female was not wearing a collar. Smith stated she did not know how the dogs escaped her property. Both dogs are registered show dogs.
