Three Pit Bulls Maul Boy in Tivoli, Texas
3 Family Pit Bulls Severely Attack Child on PropertyTivoli, TX - A vicious dog attack by 3 pit bulls sends a six-year old boy to the hospital. Officials say it happened outside his family's home in the small town of Tivoli, north of Rockport. The boy suffered severe injury to his head and neck and was in critical condition Thursday night. His condition has improved. Family members told authorities the boy went outside to play with the dogs, when they turned on him.
Animal Control Officer Mark Montalvo -- who was clearly shaken up by the attack -- says when he arrived on the scene, one of the dogs was so worked up and aggressive he had to tranquilize it
three times before it went down. All three dogs have since been euthanized. They are being taken to a vet in Beeville from there they will be shipped to the Texas Department of Health to be tested for rabies.
On the boy's mobile home property, news team KIII TV noted 9 other unrestrained pit bull dogs, but from the video, one appears to be chained to a picnic table. Because Tivoli is an unincorporated town, various dog laws may not apply in this instance. Officials say, however, that under Health and Safety code, they may be able to file charges against the parents.
