Family Pit Bull Mauls Boy; Life Flight Needed
Victoria Ambrose Is a LiarUPDATE: 05/28/08 Shadow is a previous bitter. Ambrose calls Shadow a pit bull-mix, though he looks to be 100% pit bull (an American Staffordshire terrier if you like more syllables). The dog recently attacked her 9-year old son, which required a LifeFlight helicopter rescue and two separate hospitals for emergency treatment.
Shadow, it turns out, had bitten a 4-year old boy (and visitor to the home), just three days prior to biting Ambrose's son. The boy's mother, Letricia Williams, said Shadow bit her son, Jevon, on the mouth and just above his eye on a recent visit to Ambrose's home. Jevon was rushed to Nyack hospital where he received several stitches. Williams filed a complaint with the police right away.
This information shows that Victoria Ambrose is a liar.
An animal control officer visited the Ambrose home and ordered Shadow quarantined inside the home for 10 days (some cities allow owners to quarantine at their home instead of on animal control premises, but given the 5 children in the household, it seems an odd option). Just over 48 hours later, Shadow severely mauled Jake St. Vil, one of Ambrose's five children.
05/26/08: A Recently Adopted Pit Bull-MixSpring Valley, NY - 9-year-old Jade St. Vil was taken by LifeFlight Helicopter to a hospital after being mauled by his family's pit bull. The dog bit the boy on the head, tearing a long gash across his forehead and ripping his tear duct. His mother, Victoria Ambrose, said that the attack was a shock. She said she didn't think the dog would "turn on my child."
After two hospitals and emergency surgery, Jade returned home. He had stitches across his forehead and near his eye, but doctors expect him to heal with minor scarring. The attack occurred at the family's home when the boy was playing with the dog. Ambrose lives there with her boyfriend and her five children. The boy was being watched by her boyfriend while she was at work.
According to Ambrose, the dog, a pit-bull mix named Shadow, was very affectionate and protective. Ambrose said the family had the 16-month-old dog for three months, adding that she believed the dog was abused before they owned him. She said Shadow was becoming more aggressive the past week, but she didn't think it was a serious issue.
"If I knew this was going to happen, I would've gotten rid of the dog, but I didn't know he was going to do what he did," Ambrose said.
Ambrose should take this up with agency where she adopted the dog. They too likely told her that with "good parenting and love," your family (which includes 5 children) is a perfectly suitable match for a pit bull-mix. When the LifeFlight Helicopter and emergency surgery bills chime in, Ambrose might be knocking on their door.
