Lake Charles Postal Worker Mauled by Pit Bull
Letter Carrier Flees, Pit Bull Keeps AttackingLake Charles, LA - In a developing story, a letter carrier was attacked by a pit bull while working his route. The postal worker was delivering mail on Broadmoor in North Lake Charles when a homeowner's pit bull came from inside the house and attacked him at the mailbox.
The USPS suffers high personnel casualties due to vicious dogs. They do not support breed-specific laws designed to protect their workers either.
The postal worker put up a fight and ran several blocks with the dog still biting. In his attempt to escape, he ended up at a home several blocks away, but the dog continued to attack. A passerby on 9th Street called 911 and helped fight off the dog. The carrier spent the day at the emergency room and family members say he was badly mauled.
The dog owner says the male pit bull has
never shown signs of aggression. The family told reporters that because they recently added a female* pit bull to the house, that it might have "set the dog off." Fortunately, the family surrendered the pit bull to animal services to be euthanized and evaluated for rabies.
