DogsBite logo   Over 150 dog breeds populate the US. Studies show that two breeds account for nearly 70% of bites that end in death and serious injury. We must regulate these breeds or risk the safety of our families and pets.

Missing: China, the Pit Bull that Chewed Off Owners Toes

Who Took Toe Chewing China?
Lexington, KY - In a story that only grows more disturbing, it appears that China has gone missing. Back in February, China chewed off four of her paraplegic owner's toes while he slept -- he has no feelings in his feet. Amazingly, China's owner, Terry Smith, took the dog back after the 10-day quarantine.

Smith discovered the pit bull was missing after he returned home from the hospital two days ago -- the article did not say why Smith had been hospitalized. A reward is being offered for the dog's return. Smith believes China was stolen, possibly by people who would use her for dogfighting.
Or stolen by someone who really loves Smith and does not want the dog to take a whole limb from him or his life.

Did he leave the dog home alone while he was in the hospital? Maybe animal control took the abandoned dog? And even if someone did steal it for fighting purposes, I think that underscores just how many problems these dogs have and why we shouldn't be adopting out former fighting dogs. You would think pit bull lovers would want to do something for that reason alone, yet it seems they would rather have the dogs suffer just so it is easier for them to own one.

This story really annoyed me when it initially broke. Why in the hell are low income disabled people allowed to own pit bulls?!?!?!?

If the pit owner is paralyzed OBVIOUSLY he has limited ability to control the pit!!
