Rocky's Owner Faced with Felony Charges After Attack on Animal Control Officer

"Long Recovery" Expected for Victim
Los Angeles, CA - In a violent attack that sent five pit bulls to their graves (the major offending dog was euthanized on site), the dog owner, Antoynette Michelle Jenkins is now faced with felony charges. In early May, animal control officer Vince Hernandez was attacked by Jenkins' pit bulls during a routine follow up visit to her home.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged Jenkins with one count of owning mischievous dogs causing bodily injuries for the violent attack on Hernandez. She also faces two counts of animal cruelty related to two of the pit bulls, who were found injured (and, or horribly neglected). Jenkins is set to appear at Bellflower Courthouse June 11th.

Hernandez visited Jenkins' home after she had agreed to give up three of her five dogs to comply with a city ordinance that only allows two dogs per address. He was led through a side gate where he encountered the dogs, who seemed peaceful until one attacked. He tried to defend himself using his catchpole but was overwhelmed. He suffered severe injuries to his right hand and arm.

Officials said Jenkins allegedly went inside her house and left Hernandez alone outside with the five pit bulls. The pit bull named Rocky was the main aggressor, but all five dogs participated in the attack. That day, Jenkins signed the dogs over to authorities. All were euthanized that evening. A rabies test on Rocky by the Los Angeles County Health Department came back negative.
