Senior Citizens Are Continuously Mauled by Dangerous Dogs
Gardening Grandma, Attacked by Pit BullColumbus, OH - In a trend that plummets many U.S. policymakers to the bottom of the ocean, another senior citizen was viciously mauled while gardening on her own property. The pit bull, who had never shown aggression before, hopped the fence and attacked her. A blood-spattered shoe was all that remained after medics raced 77-year old Ruth Sowers to the hospital.
Dog warden Joe Rock told reporters that Sowers had been gardening that afternoon when a pit bull leapt the fence from the neighboring property and seized her right leg. Sowers was rushed to the hospital and treated for severe dog bite injuries. This same scenario -- attacked while gardening -- killed
Jimmie Mae McConnell and
Lillian Stiles and likely others.
Neighbors saw Sowers try to free herself from the dog and eventually gain safety on a nearby porch. Meanwhile the dog’s owner, James Halbirt, told Captain Rock that the dog had never exhibited any aggressive behavior in the past. The Halbirts have children in their home and own two other pit bulls in addition to the one that attacked Mrs. Sowers.
All three dogs are being held at the county animal shelter until a judge decides if they should be destroyed. Halbirt was issued 4 citations for each dog, including charges of failure to confine a vicious dog and failure to carry the mandatory insurance policy ($100,000 per pit bull dog). So who will pay for the victim's medical bills?
