2-Year Old Taken by LifeFlight Helicopter After Pit Bull Bite
Unpredictability; It's Genetic UPDATE 06/05/08: A 2-year-old boy is in stable condition after half his face was bitten into by a pit bull. The toddler was in the backyard of his home, playing under his grandmother's supervision, when the family pit bull "for unknown reasons" attacked the child, according to Police Sgt. Rich Suviate.
He said the dog bit the boy from the bridge of his nose right underneath his eye socket, down the bridge of his nose, through his mouth and the entire cheek area. "It was a very, very nasty injury," he said. At the same time, he said the doctor at Childrens Hospital said there was no nasal cavity or sinus cavity injuries, "which I guess is huge."
The attack took place on June 4th. The boy's grandmother immediately jumped on the dog to pull it off the boy. She also sustained serious bite injuries including to the back of her right leg and punctures to her hand and forearm. Suviate added that the attack was "totally unpredictable, and just for no reason." The pit bull simply attacked the boy.Pit bulls were selectively bred to attack; they do not need a reason.
06/04/08: Family Pit Bull Bites Child Pacoima, CA - In a developing story, a one-year-old boy was in critical condition today in Childrens Hospital Los Angeles after he was bitten by a pit bull. Los Angeles firefighters responded to the call on 13000 block of Louvre Street at 11:06 a.m. The boy's mother called 911 after at least one of the family's two pit bulls bit her son on the cheek.
Firefighters used an extinguisher to spray the dog so that paramedics could reach the child and treat him. The boy was then airlifted by a helicopter from nearby Paxton Park. After the attack, the dogs were in the home's front yard and animal control officials were en route to the scene. Officials said because the boy was so young every effort was made to get him to a hospital "as quickly as possible."
