Berserking Parsippany Pit Bull is Euthanized
1-Year Old Pit Bull Takes a Dirt Nap Parsippany, NJ - Two months after a pit bull went on a berserking episode in Parsippany and bit 5 people, the dog has been laid to rest. The dog owner, Richard Cotto was fined $100, plus $50 in court costs and ordered to reimburse the township $362 for the maintenance and care of his pit bull at the animal shelter. At the time of the attack, the dog was unlicensed and running at large.
After Cotter plead guilty in municipal court, and relinquished all rights to the dog, animal control officer Chris Dikovics said that he and his assistants did not want to take any chances with an aggressive dog. They used two different sedatives an hour apart to render the pit bull unconscious before administering a fatal dose of sodium pentobarbital. "We didn't want anyone bitten," he said.
The article does not mention if there are civil suits being filed against Cotter for injuries victims suffered in the berserking episode.
