DogsBite logo   Over 150 dog breeds populate the US. Studies show that two breeds account for nearly 70% of bites that end in death and serious injury. We must regulate these breeds or risk the safety of our families and pets.

Comment: The Humane Society Treats Cockfighting Differently than Dogfighting

Euthanize the Fighting Roosters!
Olathe, KS - A DogsBite.org commenter reports yet another paradox by an animal advocacy group when it comes to pit bulls versus other animals. In this case, it is the humane society (presumably of Olath, Kansas). A recent court order approved the euthanasia of more than 500 roosters, hens and chicks.

The humane society agreed with the court order and said, "It is a sad reality and there is no way to save the chickens." The human society added that the chickens "cannot be adopted out or mixed with ordinary chickens because cockfighters are bred to be hyper-aggressive. They are raised at separated stations as well."

Even storing them, according to the District Attorney’s spokesman Brian Burgess, requires special precautions. "If they can get within reach of one another, they can be dangerous to each other. If they can get within reach of a human, they can injure a human being. They're dangerous birds; they've been bred for fighting."
Comment: Interesting that the Humane Society understands the genetic weight of breeding for aggression with fighting chickens, but throws out genetics when it comes to breeding for aggression and fighting dogs. Don’t they understand that chicken aggression and human aggression are different?
Isn’t it all in how "a chicken is raised?"

My fighting chickens will only lick you to death and have never spurred or pecked anybody. How come no one is stepping forward to save these birds? Haven’t they heard of "Therapy Chickens?" My children are playing with our chickens right now. No wonder the chicken is often referred to as the "Nanny Bird."

It seems its one set of rules and interpretation of the science if it’s dogs, but an entirely different interpretation of genetic influence if it’s birds. These people are SPECIST! And that is exactly the same as RACISM! Death to 500 chickens just because of their breeding. Oh, this is sooooo wrong!

There needs to be a letter writing campaign to end rooster discrimination by the Chicken nazis!

There are no statisitcs that prove fighting chickens are any more aggressive than roaster chickens. Fighting chickens pass their ATTS pecking test at greater rates than other chickens..The haters!!!

It seems easy for authorities to get real tough real quick when it comes to cock-fighting, but everyone gets all mealy-mouthed and squirrely when we talk about dog fighting. It's pretty damned obvious when someone is a dog fighter, but we won't PTS the dogs without jumping thorugh hoops, at the taxpayers expense, to prove that someone, somewhere, can safely adopt the dog as a "pet". Seems like avian discrimination when none of the bleeding heart rescue angels care enough to try to "rehabilitate" these birds!

To show you more disorienting, dislogic, check out the nifty press release from BadRap (one of a few groups that "rehabilitated" Vick's dogs). Tomorrow, June 29th, they are marching the dogs in San Francisco's Gay Pride parade. Isn't it too bad that we don't have time to make a banner and follow them that reads:

In 2007, pit bulls killed 21 Americans. They were accountable for 60% of the fatalities. Many of the victims were "responsible" owners, and now their kid is dead.

I doubt such a banner would go over so well at a parade DEVOTED to the celebration of human LIFE. It's hardly appropriate that pit bulls should be included in such a celebration. Pit bulls represent catastrophic human SUFFERING.
