Corpus Christi Boy, 9, Pulled Off Bike, Attacked by Pit Bull

Lubbock shows. The latest attack in Corpus Christi falls on heels of an
attack in Tivoli, just 55 miles away.
A 9-year old Corpus Christi boy is now recovering at Driscoll Children's Hospital after being viciously attacked by a pit bull. According to police, the female gray pit bull tied to a small tree managed to "get free." The pit bull tore after Jeremy and yanked him off his bike. The attack left Jeremy with an arm broken in two places, which likely required fixators -- metal bars screwed into the bones with pins.
A pit bull can snap an adult bone in half in under 5 seconds.
Jeremy's mother believes her son's attack could have been prevented. She doesn't understand why a pit bull was left in a front yard, tied to a small tree. The yard isn't fenced either. She also doesn't understand that when in high prey drive mode, a pit bull can break a chain, chew though metal and scale fences up to 6 feet high to reach their victim. It's hard to say if a
fenced yard would have mattered.
The owner of the pit bull didn't answer the door when the reporters knocked. The owner is said to be a city employee as well. Let's hope he or she is not in the line of public safety. Broken bones qualify as "severe injury" under Texas state law, which kicks in the severe penalties of
Lillian's Law for the dog owner. This is only true, however, if the attack occurred off owner property. This news article does not mention this detail.
