Irish Garda Receives 100 Stitches After Pit Bull Attack
5 Men Arrested Then FreedIn Northern Ireland -- a dogfighting stronghold, with deep historic roots -- a garda (Irish police officer) recently received 100 stitches after two pit bull terriers attacked him. The 40-year old officer suffered serious injuries to his left leg. The vicious dogs were put down after the same animals bit a second officer the following day.
The attacks took place as police were searching a house thought to have illegal drugs in Galway City. The first officer was bitten during the search in an attack that lasted several minutes. He was taken to a hospital and received 100 stitches. When a dog warden was later sent to the house, a second garda accompanying him was also bitten.
In 2007, a BBC undercover team infiltrated and busted a network of Northern Ireland gangs who buy and sell pit bulls for fighting, specifically the Farmers Boys gang. The video is about 40 minutes and worth each second. It offers a telling history of the pit bull, in addition to the stark reality of pit bull injury. Watch the BBC ExposeLabels: UK
