Jeff Davis Parish Man Drug from Bicycle By Two Pit Bulls
Bloody Door as EvidenceJeff Davis Parish, LA - Richard Woods said he heard them coming. He tried to ride faster on his bike. But this is hard to do when you're on a gravel road. The attack started with a bite to his left shoe. Eventually he lost control of the bike and fell into a ditch. He tried to cover his face and neck as the two animals bit into his flesh.
He said the dogs ate part of the biceps out of his arm. "I'm missing my biceps," he said. "I nearly lost my eye, but the doctors were able to save it. Distracted, the dogs let up and Woods was able to make his way down the road to a nearby home. Bloodstains are still visible on the door where he knocked for help. But those knocks went unanswered and the dogs returned for more.
After they let up again, Woods managed to crawl more than 300 yards through a field to a neighbor's home. He lay in the yard until the homeowner's drove up about thirty minutes later to discover his ripped, bloody body. He said they wrapped him in a blanket and if they didn't come home when they did, "I would have bled to death and I definitely would have died," said Woods.
Neighbor Diane Daigle, who lives down the street, says this is not the first time the pit bulls have attacked.
"Anytime you pass on the road, they are going to chase you, bite at your tires," said Daigle. "My brother-in-law had a motorcycle and he said they almost pulled them off his motorcycle. They attacked his feet, his legs and basically he had to drive as fast as he could to get away." Neighbors say the dog's owner was told by the Sheriff's office to chain the dogs up or get rid of them.
Daigle says that is just relocating a dangerous problem.
"We're upset that when we talked with someone there today, they said they gave the dogs away, so does that mean another child, another adult, another person is going to get ripped apart by these animals?" asked Daigle. The reporters put several calls into the Sheriff's office, but there is no word on what became of the dogs or if any action was taken against their owner.
