Youngstown Plot Thickens, New Attack, Same House
Father Appears to be AWOL
Youngstown, OH - A saga that had a rotten smell already has gotten worse. In late May, a 6-year old boy, Paul Richardson Jr., was mauled by a family pit bull after the dog busted out of its cage. Neighbors Paula and William Greer witnessed the attack and helped saved the boy. William gave us pause when he noted a pit bull's "high tolerance for pain." And that the father was a "responsible owner."
At the time of the attack, the father was not home. Shortly after the attack, the father was charged with harboring illegal dogs. It is illegal to own unregistered and uninsured pit bulls in Youngstown, Ohio. The father plead "not guilty" to the charges and blamed the faulty cage and cage manufacturer for the attack. Goodness knows he could not be accountable himself.The saga now continues. Details are sparse. Over the weekend, a 30-year old woman was beaten and her pit bull wounded by gunfire at her home that was the May 25th scene of Paul Richardson Jr.'s mauling. (A baby sitter named Lori Thomas was watching Paul at the time of the attack, it is unclear if this woman is also Thomas.) The dog, Savage, that attacked the boy was euthanized, but there was a second pit bull left at the house.
Police were called to investigate a report of shots fired outside the house. The resident told police she arrived home about 3 a.m. She told police that while on her porch, she was struck in the back of the head, dragged into the house and beaten by four men -- three with handguns and one with a rifle. Where the father was during this time is unknown; possibly out suing the cage manufacturer.This is one heck of a dangerous household. The police report doesn’t indicate if the woman who was beaten owned the dog that mauled Paul Jr. A neighbor -- possibly one of the Greer's -- said that he was awake about 5 a.m. Saturday when he saw a man being chased down the street as four men were firing at him. (Possibly the men were chasing Paul Richardson Senior, the "responsible" pit bull owner).
Police reported finding 22 bullets and casings along the street, and nine live rounds and spent shells inside the woman’s house. They found blood in the kitchen that trailed upstairs, where they found a pit bull shot but still alive. The woman refused to give police any other information. Thankfully, the young boy lives with his mother in Akron, Ohio. He was not present during the shooting.
