Letter: No Reason to Keep Dogs That Are Bred to Kill
Pierce County Citizen Speaks OutTacoma, WA - After two pit bulls attacked
Jorgann, Lind and their dog Gallagher -- leaving all three with serious wounds -- a Pierce County citizen speaks out. The author of the letter, Todd Kelly, voices the common sense DogsBite.org hopes many others feel as well. There isn't any good reason to breed and keep these dogs.
Citizens of Pierce County should unite against pit bulls and pit bull owners. Our county and city governments, or possibly even the Legislature, need to ban pit bulls and severely punish anyone whose dogs cause an injury.
My dear friends Lind and Jorgann Simonsen and their dog Gallagher now have permanent physical and emotional scars after yet another vicious attack in our community.
There simply is no reason to breed and keep these dogs. They are bred to do one thing: kill. Yet the answer is always the same from pit bull owners and breeders. They always say, “My dog is sweet. He would never do that” or “I have a right to have any kind of dog I choose.”
Really? What about Jorgann’s rights to enjoy a walk with her dog? What about the rights she had while she tried to save the life of her own dog, putting hers at risk in the process? What about the rights of these attack victims when their nocturnal subconscious takes them back to the moment of the attack, night after night?
The time has come for these killers to be off the streets and out of our lives permanently. Let’s hold their owners responsible. Make it a “three-strike” felony if their dogs attack.
The attacking dogs still appear to be unlocated. If this continues to hold true, the victims will need to undergo the rabies vaccination.Related article:07/21/08:
