DogsBite logo   Over 150 dog breeds populate the US. Studies show that two breeds account for nearly 70% of bites that end in death and serious injury. We must regulate these breeds or risk the safety of our families and pets.

New Hampshire Pit Bull Owner Faces Charges After Second Attack

Second Victim Ought to Sue the City
Wolfeboro, NH - The owner of a 2-year-old pit bull terrier that attacked two people and another dog faces three charges in connection with the incidents. Police Chief Stuart Chase said Christopher Politano faces two charges of subsequent vicious attacks by his dog and of having an unlicensed dog. He added, "The attacks are not the first for this dog."
The pit bull had bitten another Wolfeboro resident in April.
Too bad nothing was done after the first attack. New Hampshire is not a one-bite free state, it is a strict liability state. Yet in Wolfeboro, the only recent addition to their dog ordinance regards dog defecation. If you're caught not picking up poop on public property, you get issued a $25 fine. Who knows, maybe the city called a special meeting just to address this topic.

The first incident took place when a woman was walking her black lab near Politano's home. The pit bull bolted and attacked her dog. The woman's hand was bitten during the attack and the lab was taken to emergency treatment. The second victim was attacked in the parking lot of a bank. The victim had just come out and was walking to his vehicle when the dog charged and attacked.

The victim was taken to Huggins Hospital for bite wounds. The pit bull is now under quarantine at the Lakes Region Humane Society facility in Ossipee. Chase mentioned that in addition to the misdemeanor charges, Politano is likely to face hefty civil penalties. But the second victim's blood is on the city's hands, who ought to be able to sue the city of Wolfeboro.

Sounds like they have a Pit Bull sympathetic animal control program up there. How is it that a previous known biter could be unlicensed and A/C not know about it?

Why isn't this a felony?
