Pit Bull Attacks Dog in Whitehall, Owner Cited
Pit Bull Shot, Assumed DeadWhitehall, OH - In a town whose city council recently rejected a pit bull ban, there's been another genetic "accident" with a pit bull. A 71-year old female called the police and said a pit bull was attacking her dog in her yard. When officers arrived, the loose pit bull quit attacking her dog and charged the officers. Officers stepped behind a gate and pepper-sprayed the pit bull.
The spray did not affect the dog. The dog charged the officers again.
Additional officers responded to assist with the public safety concern of a loose, vicious dog. Ultimately, the dog was shot. Franklin County Animal Control cited the dog's owner for failure to confine a vicious dog and lack of liability insurance. Witnesses provided written statements and several said this particular dog had been seen running loose before.

The reason for their fight became apparent as soon as the officer stepped out of his patrol car: the large pit bull immediately charged him. The officer pepper sprayed the dog
three times before it retreated.
