Pit Bulls Consistently Attack Their Owners

Owner Fights Off Pit Bull Attack
Amity Township, PA - An Amity Township man was badly mauled by his family's pit bull before police killed the animal with a rifle after several shocks from a stun gun failed to subdue it. Thomas "T.J." Knight, 24, suffered severe bites to both hands and a leg during the attack. Knight was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.

Knight, who is the owner of the Pottstown Panthers semiprofessional football team, was unloading new uniforms from a minivan when the dog got hold of one of the bags. When Knight tried to get the bag back from the dog -- a 3 to 4-year old pit bull named Akeel -- it knocked him to the ground and violently attacked him.

Knight's wife ran out of the house to help her husband and hit the dog several times on the head with a shovel. The animal was unfazed and Stephanie went into the house and got a knife, which she used to stab the dog several times in the neck and back. The dog still continued attacking Knight.

Violence and pit bulls are synonymous. One also cannot stop a violent pit bull attack without using violent methods.

Man, Wife, Attacked by Family Pit Bull
Wappingers Falls, NY - A 33-year-old man was admitted to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with a possible fractured arm after his pit bull bit him while visiting a friend's home in Yonkers. The dog also turned on the man's 49-year old wife when she tried to help him, biting her thumbs. She also was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.

The dog will probably be given back to its owner if they can prove that they have all of the proper papers, including proof of its rabies shot. At the hospital, the owner told police the dog was registered and had its shots, but he didn't have the documents. Police said the couple were visiting friends and sitting at a table. The woman then sat on her husband's lap and the dog attacked.

If this dog does not attack its owner again, it will likely attack a child or other innocent victim.

Meth Home Destroyed; Dog Attacks Family
Jackson County, KY - Police and fire officials burned four homes involved in a meth investigation in Jackson County. The investigation unfolded after responding to a dog attack, which then led police to the discovery of drug activity. Stephanie Bishop, the owner of the attacking pit bull, says her dog was trying to get attention from Robert Fields, but he took it the wrong way.

Fields swung a hammer at the dog. At that point, Ox started attacking Fields. Bishop says she, along with her brother, Randy Spurlock, rushed to pull Ox off of Fields. They were both bitten in the process. Spurlock suffered the most serious injuries. He was airlifted to UK Hospital. Bishop and Fields were both taken to a hospital in Berea and have since been released.

The next day, Stephanie Bishop was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a minor. Police say she had an 11-year-old staying with her in the home. The police chief says he has three more warrants to serve in regard to the case. Meanwhile, Stephanie Bishop says she's determined to bring her pit bull, Ox, back home.

Pit Bull Bites Off Part of Owner's Finger
Hooksick, NY - According to a Hoosick Falls Police release, Patrolman Peter Yakel arrived on the scene and found Joseph Phlipsak on the floor inside his apartment bleeding from his hand. Neighbor Patrick Ritter, who had arrived earlier to offer assistance after hearing the disturbance, had the dog locked in another room while Yakel administered first aid.

Phlipsak reportedly told police that the pit bull had attacked him for no reason. The animal was removed by Animal Control Officer Ken Colombraro and was still behaving violently when it was caught, Chief Robert Whalen said. "It wasn't caught in five minutes, let's put it that way," Whelan said. He added that there had been issues involving the dog in the past.
