Rosie Gordon Recovering; Benefit Concert Planned
August Benefit ConcertCarbondale, IL - A concert is being held next month to benefit a Murphysboro girl who was attacked by a dog last month. Several bands will perform at “Rock Out for Rosie” for Rosie Gordon, who turned 4 this week. Rosie is recovering at the Children's hospital in St. Louis from injuries sustained after she was attacked by an American bulldog.
The attack happened on
June 19th when she and her parents were visiting the dog's owners, Kip Waller, in Carbondale. Rosie was driven to one hospital then airlifted to the Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. Shortly thereafter, she underwent a 12-hour "tissue transplant," where skin, a tendon and an artery were taken from her left arm and used on her face.
Her mother, Kendra, said the surgeons were able to do everything they set out to do. Down the road, Rosie will need a series of plastic surgeries. Kendra explained, "She is missing all the tissue from where if you took your finger from the corner of your mouth from your earlobe down and along the jaw line to her bottom lip. It was pretty major. This hospital is amazing."
