Summary: After a police officer had to shoot a pit bull, Hope Mills is considering banning vicious dogs. The pit bull hopped its fence then tried to attack the officer, so he shot it.

Summary: A police officer shot and killed a pit bull marking the second time in less than two months a separate officer had to do the same. In this instance, the dog had a man cornered in the back of a pick up truck.

Summary: Chief Deputy Marty Bilek said, "The officer shot and hit the thing twice, and it still wasn't down. The dog was still scrapping." Meanwhile, Mark Langan of the Nebraska Humane Society said, " The dog was probably doing what it was trained to do..."

#248: Woman Threatened By Pit Bull In Paris

Summary: A Paris officer fired on a pit bull after it terrorized a woman. Chief Tim Gray said the dog owner will be charged under a new ordinance specifically aimed at pit bulls. The new law requires special housing guidelines, as Gray puts it, "so we don't have to be concerned about kids and residents being able to walk through their neighborhoods safely."

Summary: The man who pulled the trigger says he didn't have any choice. Kristopher Harrison has a six-year-old daughter. He says that's why he was upset when two pit bulls wandered into his backyard Saturday afternoon. Harrison says he told his next door neighbors, if it happened again, he would shoot the dogs. And that's exactly what he did on Sunday.

NOTE: Man Sentenced to 23 Years After Dog Attack on Officer

Summary: A Phoenix man was sentenced to 23 and a half years in prison. Guillermo Bustamante was found guilty on July 22 of four charges related to an assault by his dog on a Phoenix police sergeant on Oct. 31, 2007. The police officer had spotted him in a stolen car. Bustamante then ordered his Rottweiler to attack the officer, who was bitten in the arm, causing injury.

Summary: Police shot and killed one of three pit bulls that viciously attacked Luna McDaniel. Relatives say she'll survive, but she'll likely lose an ear and a foot from her injuries.

#254: Deputy Shoots Dog While Investigating Drunk Driver

Summary: Finding the driver unresponsive, deputies shined the patrol car's lights on her and honked the horn. The pit bulls were both barking in the car. One of the dogs jumped out the passenger window and charged a deputy. He shot the dog once in the head. The dog dropped to the ground.
