With so many stray and unwanted pitbulls, why not pass mandatory spay and neuter of all pit bulls? Doesn't that make sense?

We already know for a fact that pit bull owners are perhaps the most irresponsible of all dog owners...we know that the majority of pit bull "breeders" are back yard breeders, criminals, and dog fighters who are breeding dangerous animals. The fact that so many pit bulls are dumped, abandoned, and abused is proof that the "fans" of this breed are cruel, irresponsible, or worse.

Why on earth do public officials listen to the pit bull lobbyists, when the solution to the problem is right in front of their nose?

In case anyone has doubted the nature and strength of the pit bull lobby, here is an article of interest...

http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080823/NEWS/808230345/1001/news

In the wake of his dog being euthanized this week for mauling to death a 3-year-old boy, Shannon Reason said he only wishes the dog could have been killed sooner.
Commenting Friday just steps from where his pit bull killed Tony Evans Jr., Reason expressed his irritation with the media and said he fears retaliation against his family.

"I'm sick of what people are saying about me and what should be done to me," he said. "And however many days it's been since that baby died is how many days I've said euthanize that dog. All I've been saying is kill that dog."

"One media outlet wanted to "fly me and my wife to New York so we can defend the pit bull breed," he said. "I don't want to have anything to do with that."

So, what "media outlet" wanted to fly him to N.Y. to defend the pit bull breed, after his pit bull killed a child? Does anyone think a "media outlet" would be crazy enough to advocate for dangerous dogs? Or did some crack-pot pit bull advocacy organization make him an offer?
