Pit Bull Attacks Columbus Man, 85, in Wheelchair

Columbus, OH - The City of Columbus continues to rack up pit bull victims. Multiple mail carriers have been attacked of late, a little girl was attacked due to an open a gate, a young boy was attacked while walking his family pit bull (captured on video) and a grandma was attacked while gardening behind her fence. Police officers have been busy shooting the dogs as well.

These are just a few events since March.

Over the weekend, an 85-year-old man confined to a wheelchair was attacked. A letter carrier told news reporters that he was walking when two dogs, a doberman pinscher and a pit bull, started chasing him. The carrier eluded the dogs by diving onto a home's front porch. That's when the man in the wheelchair came out of his house and was attacked by the pit bull.

The mail carrier, Peter Trzcinski, said, "I had to kick some pots and him, and I yelled and tried to make myself bigger. It stopped (the dog) but it obviously didn't stop him from hurting someone." Fortunately, the elderly man was not seriously injured. Both dogs are in the slammer for the next 10 days under quarantine. The owner was charged with failing to contain his animals.

We hope he also got nailed for not carrying liability insurance, which is a requirement for pit bull owners in the State of Ohio.

Glendale Boy Attacked by Family Pit Bull-Mix
Glendale, AZ - A 4-year old boy is recovering from serious facial wounds after being mauled by his family's pit bull-mix. The boy's family and dog were visiting his grandparents' house when the attack happened. Family members say the boy was playing with his father and his uncle when the pit bull-mix snapped and suddenly attacked him. The boy was rushed to the hospital.

The grandmother was also taken to the hospital -- she fainted when she came home and found out what happened. John Osornio, the boy’s uncle, says he’s surprised the dog attacked; he’s usually well-behaved around kids. Except for that one instance that will cost $300,000 dollars to repair. The boy is expected to undergo extensive plastic surgery and facial reconstruction.

New Attack Trigger: Stepping On an Ant Pile
Safety Harbor, FL - Six-year old Tydal Sugar was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries. Sugar was at a park on Salem Street with his mom, Rosemary, and their adopted pit bull. Witnesses say that Tydal stepped in an ant pile and started screaming and flinging his arms. The pit bull responded to his actions by attacking him.

The dog bit him on his right shoulder and head. Tydal's mother was able to restrain the dog and call 911 for help. Deputies were able to get the dog under control and put him in the back of the patrol car until Pinellas County Animal Control Officers arrived at the park. The pit bull was on a leash at the time of the attack. The investigation in Safety Harbor continues...
