Summary: Back in August, an officer shot and killed a pit bull after it bit a woman twice. It happened when the dog named Ivan got out of his fenced-in backyard. According to a police report, the dog bit a neighbor twice, giving her minor injuries. When an officer arrived, she felt threatened and shot the dog in the head after it charged her.

Summary: A Lincoln police officer approaching a house fired two shots and hit a pit bull. The dog’s owner, Layton Smith, said the shooting was unprovoked. Police say the dog was growling and barking, threatening the officer. Smith has five warrants from Lincoln police and one from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office making his version of the story "questionable."

Summary: Omaha police shot and killed a pit bull after officers said it charged them. Officers said they responded to a report of a vicious dog on the loose near 25th and Templeton. When they arrived the dog charged at an officer who kicked him away. Investigators said when it came at the officer again, in what they called a menacing manner, the officer shot and killed the dog.

#298: Palm Bay Officer Shoots, Kills Pit Bull

Summary: A Palm Bay police officer was investigating reports of a dangerous dog after a resident called saying that a dog roaming the area had become aggressive toward his granddaughter. An officer pulled up to the owner's house and told the man, "Get your dog and put a leash on it." The officer got out of his cruiser and the male pit bull lunged at him, so he shot and killed the animal.
