2008 Fatality: 3-Day Old Infant Killed by Family Dog
Baby's Death Ruled AccidentalUPDATE 09/25/08: An Ohio medical examiner has ruled that the infant's death was an accident. It's now up to police and prosecutors to decide if any charges are filed. The baby had been home from the hospital only one day when the family's Siberian husky took the child in its mouth and killed it.
09/23/08: Baby Killed by Family DogWarren, OH - In another fatal mauling of an infant, a newborn baby has died after being attacked by the family dog. At the time of the attack, she was lying in a bassinet. Warren Police Lt. Don Bishop said the 3-day-old baby girl suffered bite marks and scratches by the family's husky and was pronounced dead Monday at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Bishop says the infant's father left the room briefly and discovered the attack when he returned. Fire Chief Kenneth Schick says the baby was in full cardiac arrest when the rescue squad arrived. The animal was taken by the Trumbull County dog warden. Police are investigating the accident. This marks the 7th fatality this year when an infant was killed by the family dog.
