Pit Bulls Attack Wheelchair Paraplegic in Tennessee
Feet Looked Like "Hamburger Meat"Sequatchie County, TN - Curtis Brady, 29-years old, is a father and a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair. On Sunday, he took his 3-year old son C.J. out for a ride around the neighborhood. The ride soon turned into a nightmare. Two pit bulls leapt from the woods and attacked his feet. Although his condition is similar to muscular dystrophy, he does have feeling in his lower legs.
Brady's father, Robert, described the damage done by the pit bulls. "When I got there, it looked like hamburger meat you would see at Bi-Lo." The elder Brady went on to say that doctors told him if the skin graft surgery didn't happen, his son could lose his feet. And just about three months ago, his father said Curtis had just started getting around with the use of a walker.
During the attack, Curtis Brady's instincts as a father kicked in. "They wanted him (C.J.), but I would not give him up," Brady said. He said as soon as the two pit bulls started biting, he hoisted C.J. up to his right shoulder and held him there, operating the joystick on his electric wheelchair with his left hand. Due to his actions, C.J. was left with only a scar on the top of one foot.
Curtis, however, may lose both of his feet.
Curtis says he has no animosity toward the dog's owner, Lisa Bolden and her boyfriend, Greg Sims. Perhaps this is because he is still in shock and that he does not know how many "wheelchair" persons that pit bulls attack. Or that he saved his son, which is all that counts to a father. Brady said he and Sims were friends but would not wish this to happen to anyone.
Brady's father says the family will pursue civil action.
We hope they do so vigorously.
