#321: Man Attacked by Two Pit Bulls Shoots One10/09/08 | Oildale, CA
Summary: A man who shot a dog in Oildale was under attack at the time, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office. Elmer Walker, 72, was walking on the 700 block of the north alley of Woodrow Avenue when two pit bulls pushed open a gate where they lived and attacked the man. Walker hit one of the dogs with a stick and shot the other dog with a .22 revolver he's permitted to carry. The gun fire caused the dogs the retreat to their home.

Summary: After a dog -- described as a tan pit bull or similar breed -- attacked a 53-year old woman, an 11-year old girl and latched onto a police officer's leg, the officer shot and killed the dog. The girl’s parents took her to the hospital for treatment of lacerations to her arm. An ambulance crew treated bite wounds to the legs of the woman. The officer was not injured. Animal-control officials are reviewing whether charges should be filed against the dog owner.

Summary: Officer Albert Murray used pepper spray to force the dog to stop attacking another dog and then cornered it while waiting for animal control to arrive. When the dog became aggressive toward Murray, he pepper sprayed it again. "The dog wiped his eyes in the grass and began to charge me," Murray wrote in his report. Murray then fired several shots at the dog, striking it multiple times.

Summary: Mesa officers shot and killed a dog after the animal became aggressive and lunged at several people, police said. Officers shot the pit-bull mix after attempts to subdue it failed and animal units were unavailable for assistance. Residents told police the dog tried to bite multiple people throughout the day. The dog got loose while the owners were on vacation. Now, they will return to a dead dog and hopefully some citations.

RottenNeighbor.com may be the only place where one can report loose and dangerous dogs outside of animal control and the police. Certainly you will want to check the website before you move into a new neighborhood.

Summary: A male pit bull that attacked a woman and a child was struck with a shovel, blasted with a shotgun, shot with a tranquilizer gun and injected with a tranquilizer before it could be subdued and removed from a home in Salina. Both victims were taken to Salina Regional Health Center. Their names were not immediately available, but it appears the woman is the dog's owner.

Summary: Police shot and killed a pit bull after patrolmen were unable to safely corral the animal. A neighbor had reported the dog acting wildly. When Patrolmen Aaron Kasiewicz and Charles Pickard Jr. arrived, Pickard said he tried using a handful of dog treats to calm the dog, but was unsuccessful. The dog also continued to charge at him after being electronically shocked. So he shot the dog two times, killing it.

#328: SPCA Officer Open Fires on Pit Bulls10/15/08 | Chicago, IL
Summary: An SPCA officer open fired on a vicious dog in Westwood, shooting and killing it. The officer says two aggressive pit bulls cornered him on the 2700 block of Montana Avenue. The SPCA got a call from a neighbor about the dogs running loose earlier this morning. The dogs' owner has previous citations for failing to confine them. She didn't show up in court, and police subsequently arrested her.

#329: Deputy Shoots Pit Bull After Charging K910/15/08 | Statesville, NC
Summary: A pit bull was killed after it charged an Iredell County Sheriff's Office canine. Statesville Police said members of the SPD Narcotics Unit and Special Operations Team were serving a search warrant at a home at the time of the shooting. One of the pit bulls chained up the yard snapped its chain and tried to attack Rambo, the deputy's canine. Deputy Keith Bills shot the pit bull, killing it.
