Killer Dogs Euthanized After Week Long Rampage in Apple Valley

Dogs Had Teeth Kicked Out
Apple Valley, CA - A pack of five dogs believed to be responsible for several attacks -- one of which resulted in the death of a pony -- have been euthanized. The owner of the dogs, Daniel Toledo, signed over all rights to the dogs after they were captured. Neighbors affected by the dogs are now preparing property loss reports in hopes they can recoup expenses.

One resident considering a civil lawsuit is a woman named Kim, who didn’t want her last name used out of fear of retribution. Early last week Kim, who lives near the Marianas, found her horse named Ruger badly injured with some very large, gaping wounds. She then saw three of the dogs outside her fence with blood on them. She called animal control, but the dogs were gone before they got there.

Kim said she was able to get her horse to the veterinarian on Monday, and the vet told her that a pack of dogs with the same description had killed a pony down the street a few days before, and tried to get into his yard as well. After the animals ran through a sliding glass door into a woman’s house, threatening her and her Rottweiler, animal control officers launched an all-out search.

They combed the neighborhood street by street until Kim and the pony’s owner helped identify the dogs -- two adult pit bull mixes and three young shepherd-husky mixes -- wandering in an unfenced yard. Kim said the dogs were in bad shape, with teeth kicked out and one with a swollen head. All five dogs were taken to the local animal shelter until they could be put down.

The kicked out teeth and swollen head were likely the result of a horse hoof.
