Pit Bulls Attack Second Dog, Killing It in Miramar
Pit Bulls Kill Small DogMiramar, FL - Residents are pointing fingers after two pit bulls reportedly attacked and killed a dog. This is apparently not the first time the pit bulls had done so. The victim was with her Pomeranian outside her home when two pit bull mixes from a nearby house, attacked them. The woman told police the dogs came out of nowhere and went straight for her dog. She said they didn't have leashes and she didn't see their owner anywhere.
Jeremy Brumbaugh, who is an owner of two pit bulls, says the same dogs from the same house attacked and injured one of his pit bulls when he was just a puppy. "It's definitely the same guy because I actually did a report on him, because they were just running around," said Brumbaugh. "I was walking just him, and one of them came around and clamped down on his stomach, and I had to pay $1800 total in surgery costs."
New Broward LawBroward County recently passed a Dangerous Dog law (
Section 4-12) that deems a dog "dangerous" after it attacks and kills "one" domestic animal while off the owner's property. Once animal control impounds the dog, written notice is given to the owner and after ten (10) business days from the date of notification, the dog is humanely euthanized. Some
pit bull owners are opposed to this law, one has
started a petition.
The owner of 4 huskies is suing the county over the law because all dogs deserve the chance to kill domestic animals 2 times, not just once.In other news:
Midlands Woman Injured, Puppy Killed by Pit BullColumbia, SC - A pit bull attack sent a Columbia woman to the hospital and left her puppy dead. The victim says she's devastated and also frustrated because she says the neighbor was warned about his pit bull the day before the attack. Melissa Gay had to watch as her Maltese puppy, Mr. Biggs, lost his life inside the mouth of the neighbor's pit bull. She said the pit bull literally "snatched him right out of my hand."
The attack left Melissa with multiple stitches and three deep bites along her arm that went through her leather jacket. Melissa and her mom say this attack could have been prevented. "I told him about the problem of his dog getting out," Jean said. On Thursday, the neighbor's pit bull hopped the fence and almost attacked her while she was walking Mr. Biggs. She says she talked to the neighbor on Friday.
Officials say Saturday evening, the pit bull hopped the fence again and that's when they say he attacked Melissa and Mr. Biggs.Related articles:10/23/08:
