Spain Jails Pit Bull Owner for 1 Year After Fatal Attack
Victim Partially EatenGranada - The Penal Court in Granada has ordered a year’s prison for the owner of three pit bull dogs which bit a 78-year old man to death in Pinos Puente in January 2007. The owner of the dogs, named as Juan M.P., was also ordered to pay 99,000 € compensation to the family of the dead man after being found guilty of serious negligence resulting in death.
The court said the victim was attacked by the dogs when collecting olives on his finca in Pinos Puente, after the dogs had escaped from a nearby property. The victim's body was found partially eaten. The dogs were unvaccinated and without license as well. The judge also noted the poor relations between the victim and the dogs owner due to the presence of the pit bulls.
The pit bull problem is world-wide.
