Family Dog Mauls Toddler in Ardmore, Oklahoma
UPDATE 11/17/08: KTEN news has revised their original story. The dog is now being called an American bulldog. In addition, KTEN removed the Ardmore Animal Control paragraph, but it still
survives in cache. Specifically, it said: "Ardmore Animal Control says children are often attacked by pit bulls because they don't like eye contact at their level and small children are just the right height, but this was one of the worst attacks they've ever seen."
11/16/08: Mother Surprised Dog Was ViolentArdmore, OK - A two year-old in Ardmore was viciously attacked Thursday night by their family pit bull. Neighbors told reporters it was absolutely the unthinkable. They said the mother was screaming and it was without a doubt one of the most horrifying things they've ever seen. Neighbor Teresa Fowler said, "...you know they was just in shock, because I mean it was horrible they said there was a puddle of blood out there they said the little girl just looked awful."
The mother was washing dishes while her two daughters were playing on the floor. Seconds later, the family's pit bull was attacking the two year-old in the face. The mother shoved the 4-year old old out the front door while she tried to pry her toddler from the dog's mouth. The mother ran outside yelling for help, asking someone to call 911 -- her phone was in the trailer with the dog. She says they've had the dog for more than five years, and it had never shown a violent side.
Pit bulls were selectively bred to hide warning signals before an attack.
The child was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City. Instead of offering the truth about pit bulls to the news source,
Ardmore Animal Control offered a hocus pocus response to the attack, but admitted that this was one of the worst attacks they've ever seen. We'd like to share with the KTEN news team that since January 2006, pit bulls have killed a person every 20 days -- 50 citizens are dead due to pit bull attacks in this time frame, only
28% were to persons 4 years and younger.
