Woman Attacked by 5 Dogs While on Morning Walk
Senior Citizens are Not SafeMcMinnville, TN - In a developing story, a morning stroll nearly cost a woman her life. Dean Gay was walking near her neighborhood when a pack of dogs attacked her. The video shows that two of these dogs appear to be pit bulls; the others were not shown. In the middle of the attack, Gay hit her cell phone's speed dial and called her husband. "She called me," said her husband, Dewey Gay.
"They were already on her, and I could hear her screaming."
Dean Gay seldom missed a day walking through the neighborhood close to her home. At first, witness Ramone Vevas thought the dogs he saw were chewing on a discarded Halloween mannequin -- until he heard screaming. "And I didn't have no stick or nothing with me," said Vevas, "so I just took my belt off, and I start swinging on them, and they finally just got scared and just walk across the street."
Three of the five dogs that attacked Dean Gay have been caught. Warren County Animal Control is looking for two more dogs. The owners of all five dogs might face serious charges. The district attorney is considering charges, one being reckless endangerment.
Tennessee dog law is complex, but because the dogs were "at large" when they attacked, Gay's criminal and civil cases ought to be much stronger.
