Pit Bull Breaks Through Glass Door to Attack 10-Year Old Child
Police Shoot, Kill Dog South Bend, IN - A 10-year-old South Bend girl was hospitalized after a pit bull broke through a glass door and attacked her. The dog attacked Kendra Burdine, a Nuner Primary Center fourth-grader, as she and some friends walked in an alley, according to information released Saturday by police. The dog, which bit Kendra on her right arm, was shot and killed by South Bend police after it tried to attack an officer responding to the scene. Kendra Burdine is lucky to be alive.
Due to genetic "high prey drive," a pit bull will break through glass, snap chains and bite through wood slats to reach their victims.
Kendra said, "The dog, he just busts out of this glass door. He started chasing us. We started running." When the dog caught up to the group, it knocked over one of her friends. "I said 'Hey, get away from her,' then it started attacking me and she ran inside the house." Kendra said a neighbor laid on top of her to shield her from the dog before police arrived. On Saturday, no one answered the door of the house the dog broke out of but the glass hadn't yet been repaired.
Animal Control officials could not be reached Saturday.
The attack happened Thursday night. Kendra was taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center after the attack. Her mom said doctors performed surgery and worked to make sure Kendra wouldn't get an infection. Her family is hoping she'll be released today (2.5 day hospital stay, emergency surgery, estimated baseline: $25,000). Kendra's mother, Cassandra Burdine, said her daughter has had difficulty sleeping and has had nightmares since the attack.
Does anyone believe this pit bull owner will pay a penny?
