These Indiana strain Pit Bulls seem very adept at causing limb amputations.

Who can forget the heart warming story of when Annette Williams disloyal maulers removed her arms last year:

THE CITY OF ELKHART SHOULD BE SUED. THIS MAN CALLED FOR HELP SEVERAL TIMES. NO ANIMAL CONTROL CAME---. ONCE AGAIN THIS IS A POOR PERSON WHO SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAD A PIT BULL. I WOULD GUESS A MAN WHO KNEW VERY LITTLE ABOUT PIT BULLS. YESTERDAY IN INDIANAPOLIS POOR MRS. BRENDA HILL WHO WAS ATTACKED BY HER NEIGHBORS PIT BULLS WHILE TAKING OUT THE TRASH HAD HER LEG AMPUTATED. THINK OF THE POWER OF THE JAWS AND THE RELENTLESS BITE THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS DAMAGE. MRS. HILL IS ELDERLY AND A DIABETIC SO THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION. I MIGHT ADD THE OWNER OF COURSE HAS NOTHING SO SHE IS LEFT WITH NO COMPENSATION. LIABILITY INSURANCE SHOULD BE MANDATORY TO OWN ONE OF THESE LITTLE CUTIES.

Bad Rap and Best Friends and these other pit bull promoting business machines need to be held accountable for the things they are telling people

They are telling the public that pit bulls are just like any other dog, only oppressed, and that people should just be taking them in off the streets and "loving them" and everything will be ok

People are getting attacked, their other pets are getting attacked, they are getting traumatized by these pit bulls

But Bad Rap and the others keep lying to the public, and telling them to keep picking up pit bulls

And dog aggression is NOT ok because people get in the middle and get hurt

Just because someone cries poormouth and tries to blame the humane society, does not mean it is true

The taxpayers should not be paying to euthanize someone's dog, and this was HIS dog

How could he be paying for the dog's food if he couldn't even come up with $50? He was a rent-paying tenant

It is bull that he couldn't come up with the nominal $50 to euthanize this dog.

He made the decision to keep this dog, and his idiot landlady let it stay in the house. SHE could have had it removed.

But they all felt bad for the pit bull, and this is where it got them

Now they are looking for someone else to blame

I don't think anyone disagrees that it was the man's responsibility to do something about the dog. The question is: Should an animal control agency pick up a dangerous BITER at no cost after an owner has called in FEAR? It seems there might be a special protocol for this. It is certainly worth a discussion.

If the victim in this instance had been a child or senior citizen (not the pit bull owner), I bet most would agree that AC should have a protocol, particularly in the instance of a formerly stray pit bull that has begun showing substantial dog-aggression. Talk about a red flag for a dangerous dog!

A somewhat similar incident happened in Kansas last year. Because the pit bull owner was too afraid to transport the biting pit bull (or so he said) to the animal agency to be euthanized, the dog stayed in his home. Then the dog attacked his family...

While some pit bull owners may be poor and highly irresponsible, one needs to consider the cost at NOT picking up the dog after an owner has called AFRAID and said the dog is a BITER.

Today on Aminal Planet there was an episode of Animal Cops...they were in Pennsylvania. Agents confiscated a group of pit bulls being kept in a yard, because they believed they were part of a dog fighting ring. The dogs were wearing what looked liker anchor chains, that weighed 60lbs.

One dog bent the steel bars on the cage in the AC van with his teeth. They put the dogs in kennels at an SPCA facility. Suddenly, there was a commotion, and the film crew captured what happened.

One pit bull was in a kennel, and there was blood eveywhere....the dog was covered in blood, and the kennel was bloody. The pit bull heard a dog in the next kennel and had torn through the divider...it had destroyed the wall trying to get at the other dog, injuring itself. It was unclear if it had managed to get at the other dog.

They had the pit bull in the parking lot and explained that, there was no safe place to contain this dog; it was so strong, and dog aggressive, it would chew through walls to kill another dog. They were litereally having to euthanize it in the parking lot.

All this Pit owner coddling and consumption of tax payers dollars is too hard.... Just ban these so called "domesticated dogs". They've worn out their welcome in the realm of domestication.

This poor amputee will NOT get a spot on the Today Show as the recent alligator victim did (who only lost a hand in the attack!)

What are the odds that someone who DOES NOT have 50 dollars to get rid of their pit bull DOES have medical insurance?

WE get to pay the cost of the mauling! All of it!

The cost of allowing these damn ugly dogs is getting shoved down our throats, AGAIN! Enough already!

And no sympathy for any imbecile that would own one. None!

This guy should sue his own landlord for allowing him to keeping this so called domesticated dog on the premises.

by Anonymous Anonymous 2/11/2009 9:27 AM  |  Flag as abusive
The sad fact is, HE JUST MIGHT! It may be the only way for him to get his medical bills paid! He doesn't have a homeowner's policy, but his landlord does and the attack occurred on her property. She feels sorry for Sands now, but wait until she needs to mortgage her home to pay his bills...

This is ridiculous, he shouldn't be able to sue anyone. It is horrible that he was attacked, but he should have been able to come up with $50 to have it euthanized. People have to take some responsibility. I'm assuming he also couldn't afford to have it spayed/neutered either.

Sadly, he will have to sue. His medical bills will hit $100,000 easily and will likely go beyond. There was no crime here -- in that if the state has a FELONY VICTIM fund, he will not be able to access it. If there truly is no one to sue, YOU AND I pay for this bill.

Not very bright is this one, the guy or the dog. Loving dog gets riled up over another dog barking and tries to make a 15 minute snack of his owner. My dogs get riled up too, normally they jump on people and lick them or get aroused (erection) while they jump around barking and acting like dumb animals so I guess I understand a dog getting riled up. Plus I am a nervous eater, when I get nervous I sometimes want to eat too so I guess I can also understand the dog wanting to get a quick bite/snack after all of the excitement. I totally understand why this dog tried to eat its owner now, it all makes perfect sense. The dogs not bad it was just a hyper active nervous eater. They shouldn't have put that dog to sleep, I know a guy who already has no arms or legs and wants to die, it would've been a great pet for him...
